The Alchemist
The band M.A.A.M was born in Northern Virginia to four moms and a man, hence the acronym. This alt-rock act formed the band to combine their voices against the patriarchy, and to stand up against injustice towards women. They make great music and they know how to remove a blood stain from a rayon blouse (check it out on their website). St. P, vocalist and guitar player, also identifies as a part-time werewolf. M.A.A.M. has also got a tagline: “It’s not a midlife crisis, it’s a movement. Now go to your room!” This band is perfect not just for parents in the midst of their very own midlife crises, but also for anyone looking for fun music and a break from the doldrums of quarantine.
Their first single, “Manster!”, reminds me of a Blondie song— hardcore in its feminity. M.A.A.M released their second single, “Better,” on November 20th. The eccentricity of this band, their care and love for the DC music scene, and the pure earth-shattering excellency of their music and aesthetics makes it mandatory to take a listen.
