If you look for it, you’ll find Jon Tyler Wiley & His Virginia Choir already have a brand new single available, “Strong”, and we’re just now catching up to this gem. “Laura Lee” went public in May and had an instant earworm effect before its music video debut made it twice as habit-forming.
Seasoned musicians Eddie Dickerson (fiddle, guitar), Thomas Johnson (keyboards), and husband-and-wife rhythm section Brian ‘Piper’ Barbre (drums) and Joanna Smith (bass) join Jon Tyler Wiley (guitar, vocals) to produce what they lovingly refer to as ‘not country’ music by implementing country music instrumentation to produce a unique blend of Alternative Americana.
Wiley says the entire song came to life after the melody and lyrics for the first line came to him in a moment of inspiration: “Saw her there in the corner singing somebody else’s song.” And the music video does a great job of playing on that idea by having band members coming across an unidentified individual (who is obviously not Wiley) singing the song in a public park.
