With its no-f*cks-given attitude, Ballyhoo!’s newest single “Middle Finger” is sure to become the anthem of the vacationer this summer.
The Aberdeen, Md.- based group has released five albums since its genesis in 1995, selling over 30,000 copies and over 200,000 digital tracks. Their unique sound incorporates reggae rock, punk, and alternative rock. The group has enjoyed an extensive touring history, playing over 166 shows in 2012 alone, and opening for the likes of Dirty Heads, Tribal Seeds, and Slightly Stoopid.
“Middle Finger” is distinctly reggae-inspired in both sound and energy. The escapist lyrics discuss being sick of the grind and toil, and the liars and cheats, that come along with life. Their response to these common feelings exemplifies the easy-going, relaxed vibe for which reggae music has come to be known. The sound of the song is built of rich bass, deft vocals and guitar, and sweet percussion.
Fans of reggae rock and fusion like Sublime or 311, as well as fans of funky alternative rock looking to expand their palette, should check out Ballyhoo!’s music. Their unique reggae-inspired sound pairs perfectly with an ice-cold drink and a hot day.
