A few months ago, I had the pleasure of interviewing the multifaceted 19-year-old DMV artist who I believe will change the world: Camille Lauren. (Check out the full read piece here.) Recently, she has been experimenting with melodic rap which you can hear in her new release “Thought it Was Me.” The song deals with the struggles of being in an unhealthy relationship where you are not your partner’s main priority.
One of the hardest things in life is loving someone more than they could ever love you. It can be painful when the person you would do anything for will not even give you the time of day. Some of her influences include Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z, which are apparent in the track. Fans of those artists should check out this rising talent with a diverse sound.
“No time for three strikes!” Clearly, Camille is not messing around like an idiot. She is done with the toxic behavior. In this short but sweet song, Camille created a fun little visual to accompany the track. Watch as she happily dances around, shops, and enjoys the mall. This video makes you want to go out and dance like you are a teenager.
