Leopard Rays’ most ambitious track yet, “Something Like Hell,” dropped today, January 28.
Hartlepool, England based group Leopard Rays consists of Luke Dawkins on vocals, Sean McCloskey on guitar, Tom Pattison on bass, and David Wilcox on drums. The band explains, “McCloskey is originally from Chicago and brings a traditional American pancake to an otherwise full-English breakfast.”
The alternative rock four-piece has released music since 2018, gracing stages at Stockton Calling, Manchester, London, and Newcastle, as well as the inaugural Heelapolooza and Gathering Sounds Festivals.
“Something Like Hell” shows a deep maturation in Leopard Rays’ sound, growing up from the soft coolness of September’s “Carried Away” and December’s “Curtain Call.” It gently but firmly leads the listener through heartbreak.
It cuts so hard just like a knife into the heart, I’ll crash the car and patch it up, and leave a scar.
“While the record industry sleeps, the early bird catches the worm. A January release may be tricky or daunting for many, but for Leopard Rays, it’s a nettle to grasp. Their prolificacy is fast becoming a praxis as much as the heart they brazenly wear on their sleeve. And, as anyone who has ever had their heart broken will know, music is redemption.”
