Jazz and soul artist Taylor Kelly has released her new genre-bending single, “Sabotage,” in collaboration with Zeek Burse. The Rochester native graduated from the Berklee College of Music; she now produces music out of Philadelphia.
“I believe the essence of music is self-expression and finding meaning in every word and note, but I also realize the importance of music theory, ear training and the ability to read, as it allows you to understand music fully and go far beyond what you ever thought you could do,” Kelly explains.
The song features wonderful production and amazing, dramatic beats that add to the large scope of the message; the electric guitar adds so many exciting layers and complexities to the already impressive track. It melds established genres like R&B, pop, funk, and soul seamlessly. The single also features vocals from Zeek Burse, another Philadelphia musician.
“’Sabotage’ started off as a sad piano ballad as I came to terms with how often I was in the way of my own happiness,” said the singer-songwriter. “When I brought it to my producer last year, we gave it new, powerful, almost cinematic life – really capturing the essence of what it feels like to self-sabotage – the discomfort, the frustration and the desperation.”
