“Ring Ring” is the latest single and music video from commercial musician Brian Walker that released today, February 4. In the first shot, we see a woman looking exasperated as she speed walks while trying to call someone.
It’s soon revealed that this is occurring in the present as the video begins bouncing back and forth between the past and the present. Walker initially laments lost love as he sings, “Partying out on the west end / then you go home with my best friend.” The video follows the lyrics, literally having the woman from the opening (Walker’s girlfriend) seen leaving a club with someone else.
“Now I got no sympathy when you come crawling back to me / Ring Ring Ring / Ain’t nobody picking up the phone,” Walker sings as the chorus chimes in. At this point, the story starts to take on a more meta-approach, as we see shots of him recording this very song. Toward the end, the ex-lover sees Walker heading into a theater (guitar in hand) with a new girl, where this song will no doubt make its live debut.
The narrative of the video is cleverly crafted to let the song take on a more in-depth meaning, and we learn that the titular “Ring Ring” is the sound of a phone call being ignored into voicemail. Born out of feelings of betrayal, this is a music video that lives in its feelings and revels in a moral high ground.
