Luke MacDonald, otherwise known as chasing luma, released his debut single, “bittersweet” on February 4. This is MacDonald’s first-ever project, and enters the pop songwriting scene with a bang.
The Canada-native began playing guitar and writing songs at the age of 8; MacDonald has since produced electronic and dance music, which continues to heavily impact his creative expression.
chasing luma’s new single is genre-bending; it takes clear and distinct characteristics from dance music, like the high-energy beats, and combines it with the moveable and chill rhythm of indie-pop.
“‘bittersweet’ was the song that made me decide to make the chasing luma project. For a long while, I was really lost and not sure what sounded like ‘me,’” said MacDonald about the single. “It’s about asking yourself if it’s worth it to abandon everything you know, or to stay in your comfort zone; knowing you want more out of life, but not knowing quite how to get it yet – being aware that you’ll probably be happier if you follow your heart and ambition, but being a bit timid of the cost of that.”
Fans of Bad Suns, Lauv, and Charlie Puth should listen to chasing luma’s new single, “bittersweet.” The single is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, SoundCloud, and Bandcamp.
