Get ready to sway and bob to the electric ambience of name unknown’s new song, “Can’t Forget,” featuring pop vocalist ENMOCEAN. Based out of North Carolina, the DJ Production partnership comprised of Joe McDougall and Austin Wallace have been collectively filling clubs since 2015.
“Can’t Forget” is a diverse and kaleidoscopic blend of influences, highlighting name unknown & ENMOCEAN’s unique personalities, which modulate between spacious verses, where the vocals echo into oblivion and choruses, where the rhythmically sliding synthesizers take center stage. Equally emphasizing the production and the vocals, this kind of music is all about charisma that’s bursting at the seams.
It is an exciting release with high energy that keeps an open mind and goes for a spontaneous vibe that feels large and in charge. Yet, in spite of that, the lyrics tell a story that is more personal. With the repeating mantra of the chorus “It’s a shame I can’t forget,” ENMOCEAN divulges that there is a past relationship she cannot let go of no matter what she tries or who she’s currently seeing.
Much like the instrumentation, the emotions of “Can’t Forget” swell and disperse in exciting ways, giving us a look into the tricky nature of nostalgia when it comes to relationships. Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
