“In My Room,” a single off of Red Green Blue’s debut EP 5 Generations, explores what a life is when it is truly lived. American musician and animator Ben Meyers is the brains behind Red Green Blue. His dreampop, indiepop vibe is accentuated by the 3D-animated world Meyers creates from his bedroom in North Hollywood. His genuine, homegrown animation aesthetic is reminiscent of early 2000’s video game VFX.
Meyers’ self-produced and written EP is “laden with nihilistic, yet hopeful sentiments about medication addiction, love lost and the slow, humbling realization of dust to dust.” The intensity and darkness of the lyrics are juxtaposed with driving, arpeggiated synthesizers resting above powerful drums and percussion.
“As 30 is a few months away, the uncontrollable progression of time is hitting me harder and harder. I think something magical happens as one ages – they become their own philosopher. We begin to accept and understand what ‘dust to dust’ truly means. This song, ‘In My Room,’ spawned from my frustrations as an isolated artist watching everyone else in the world live.”
