New UK-based rapper, Propxr, has begun to make moves his new music video for “Silo,” which released on March 4. Keeping his identity secret, this is an artist who works in the shadows with a clear interest in producing music videos (his first single “All The Same” was also accompanied by a music video).
Each frame in this video functions like an extension of the lyrics, modulating between literal and abstract modes of depiction. At times we see flashes of people depicting doctors, teachers, and family members, but the motif that tie these shots together are of people making the hand gesture of “shushing” someone.
“Don’t tell me beep / I don’t wanna know,” Propxr raps through the chorus, hinting at a connection to the song’s title: a silo being a verb that has the connotation of isolating oneself. In this case, he seems bound and determined to keep himself separated from certain information that he doesn’t want to know about. As he continues on, there is talk about a woman he’s clearly infatuated with, but it’s unclear what he doesn’t want to know about her specifically.
Perhaps there’s something to be garnered from the opening visual of flare that has been set ablaze and is spewing orange smoke. Again, Propxr works in the dark, so perhaps complete clarity is not something we can expect – the smoke and mirrors of the whole experience leaves a sense of mystery waiting to be unraveled.
