Cool, grungy Brisbore-born The Valery Trails are finally able to release their long anticipated latest EP, Introvert Blues.
After expatriate Andrew Bower (vocals/guitars) moved to Houston, he enlisted his brother Sean Bower (bass) and Dan McNaulty (drums), still based in his hometown of Brisbane, Australia, to form The Valery Trails in 2011. Their debut album, Ghosts and Gravity, was released in 2012, with the help of the internet and some intercontinental travel.
These continued to be key for their next two albums, which were met with international commercial success. Plans for their follow-up album were derailed by the coronavirus pandemic, but with a silver lining: Andrew Bower moved back to Brisbane, reuniting the band and allowing them to function a bit more normally.
Introvert Blues, a three-song EP released on February 25, feels like classic vintage rock. The title track was written pre-pandemic, but the lyrics hit right on the feelings that the world went through.
There are days when I wake up
And I don’t want to get up
There are days when I get up
And I don’t want to leave the house
There are days I see clearly
I see things as they could be
And then I turn on the TV
And I don’t want to leave the house
Sonically, the raucous guitars blend with the smooth drumbeat, and the use of a cowbell makes the track feel lighthearted and whimsical.
