On February 24, Los Angeles-based R&B artist Ré Alissa released the official music video for her hit song “MOVIE” from her debut EP, Ré. The warm, sensual track, coupled with the artist’s honey-coated, sultry vocals, explores the allure of new relationships when the chemistry is spot-on and the love is not in short supply.
The accompanying video for “MOVIE” pays homage to 90’s home camcorders, which aligns perfectly with Ré Alissa musical style that is both retro and modern. “Tell me what you want / While nobody is looking around us / When the world isn’t still moving around us / We could make a movie right now,” she sings in the chorus.
Videographer Nathan Blub expertly captures the seductive nature of the track. Lyrics like “I can turn you on” are paired with shots of Ré Alissa in a steamy bathtub setting along with a video camera, showcasing her toned physique. Regardless of whether her lover is “so weak” or “impatient” for her love, Ré Alissa is in the mood and not afraid to let her guard down.
Throughout the video for “MOVIE,” contemporary choreography is juxtaposed with images of Ré Alissa. Against the backdrop of a large clock, five dancers complement the storyline of two people who document their late-night romantic pleasures, inviting listeners to get lost in their own imagination. Viewers notice that the hands on the clock are at a standstill for the entire video, symbolizing the intoxicating nature of consummating one’s love, where time seems to stand still.
“MOVIE” offers a tempting escape from the cares of life and provides an outlet for savoring the moment. However, Ré Alissa is not naïve to believe that this bliss will last forever. The fact that she captures her experiences means she realizes relationships can be fleeting. Only through her memories will they live long after the spark is gone.
