Hannah Nagle, 20, a singer-songwriter and Orlando-based college student originally from Richmond, VA, consoles and encourages us to “Take it easy, babe,” in her dreamy new single, “Speak Easy.”
The track, which debuted on March 3, consists of a waltz-esque piano progression, as well as guitar, which adds to its golden feel. It leads the listener through an emotional journey, which culminates towards a strong, powerful bridge.
Beautiful vocal harmonies are layered as Nagle sings the title of the single, as well as she coaxes us, “Tell me all your troubles are gone.”
“As someone with anxiety, OCD, and depression, I wanted to create a song for others, as well as myself, to find comfort in,” Nagle says. “To me, intrusive thoughts and compulsions are a double-edged sword; you know you shouldn’t listen to them, and you try not to, but sometimes you do anyway, because it’s familiar.” Lyrically, she compares this to alcoholism.
One can relate to the fears of “wasted youth” and “Canterbury truth” that she eloquently expresses. However, she assures us “nothing will go wrong.”
Nagle possesses “a passion to inspire” that she carries with her as she studies acting and English in Los Angeles, CA, and loves how her environment encourages her to write. Drawing from her own emotions, she aims to “invoke awareness in others” through her music, hoping that others will find solace in her words, just like she has.
