Following their debut single, “Honey Let’s Go,” Washington D.C.-area husband-and-wife duo sunset + mine, or Valerie and Rocco Repetski, have made Coldplay’s “Fix You” their own. This “sonic adventure” is in tune with their uplifting aura.
From the track’s opening, we are immersed in an electro pop world that consists of Valerie Repetski’s ethereal vocals and harmonies and “future-industrial bliss laced with guitars, vocoders, and massive drums,” as well as Rocco Repetski’s keyboards.
“Coldplay fans will be struck with the immediate sonic and minor harmonic departure from the original track,” but trust — it’s a great surprise, especially around the midpoint of the song when the intense guitar progression seemingly comes out of nowhere. The song, produced by Los Angeles-based Ian Charlie (of Walla), pays homage to the original timeless hit by “landing gracefully in a final gentle organ.”
In their music, sunset + mine “craft a refreshing and upbeat perspective of love and relationship through a novel revelation of their own marriage journey,” and they share “a youthful enthusiasm that belies the decade they’ve spent performing as a married couple.”
“Honey Let’s Go,” released on January 14, established the duo’s ability to create a sing-at-the-top-of-your-lungs romance anthem that reflects their young love story that blossomed from impromptu jam sessions; it was their pop project that they longed to create.
