Southern California-native Carli Brill has released her new single, “Kaleidoscope.” This is the third single from Brill in the past year to introduce her new album. Recorded in Nashville and produced by Brendan St. Gelais, the singer-songwriter’s new independent era of music ushers in experimental sounds she explored while on her own.
Though Brill is currently based out of Nashville, her Southern California roots are incredibly evident in her music career; Brill grew up learning to play guitar, piano, voice, and flute. She eventually started her music career with her own Christmas album in 2016. In 2018, Brill won a nationwide contest, judged by Jessie J, to record tracks at L.A.’s Capitol Records. She released her debut self-titled pop EP under the name Sonora in 2019.
“Kaleidoscope” incorporates a Bossa Nova-type beat that combines well with the indie-pop drums and guitar. Along with Brill’s gorgeous vocals, the track can only be described as light and airy; the song itself screams “Southern California!” It is the perfect summer tune to play while laying out in the hot summer sun. Its lyrics also take on the “go-with-the-flow” mentality, as they communicate the ever-changing nature of humanity.
“The kaleidoscope represents how we as humans are continually changing, moving, morphing yet always possess that essential piece to who we are – even if it’s yet to be discovered,” says Carli. “I find that the song tells you where it wants to go,” she says. “I just trust what feels right.”
