James Walker examines dating culture in new single, “Expectations.”
James Walker debuted in 2017, and the accolades haven’t stopped since. His debut, English Bones, went on to receive the highest reviews in The Huffington Post, Overblown Magazine and Punktastic, over 10,000,000 global streams, as well as international radio play on BBC, 3FM, WRAL and more. Walker feels that he has matured greatly since he released English Bones, he had “lived many lives in the years that have passed between English Bones and now. I’ve moved from my parents’ house to Austria twice over, I’ve fallen loudly in and out of love, I’ve wrestled with the idea of who I am and my place in the world, fully recovered from open-heart surgery and questioned mortality, I’ve lost some very close family members, and I’ve played hundreds of shows in a dozen countries. It’s been a very intense period of work, and whilst I’ve been very close to burnt-out, I am incredibly grateful to have been afforded these opportunities.”
After a life so full of experiences, his return in 2020 with Great Deciever, as well his extensive 2021 tour, has well positioned him for his latest releases.
“Expectations is a pop song about the *ridiculous* demands we place on our partners; how we need them to think we’re the best, how they’re going to fix all our problems. Of course they never do. A semi-serious, freshly produced pop bop with a narrative that asks: Am I in love with you, or my expectations?”
