With a funky groove that may only be described as ‘delicious,’ Austin, Texas-based Neo-Soul and Contemporary R&B artist Alesia Lani’s latest single, “I Don’t Mind,” was just released on all major platforms by Trailing Twelve Records. Co-written with Tony Donald and producer QB Smith and the artist, “I Don’t Mind” creates a luscious soundscape transporting listeners to the funky and rhythmic sounds of the 1970s while Lani’s flirtatious lyrics dance lively around the confident swagger provided by the ‘strut’ of the drums, ‘syrupy’ bass lines, and guitarist Kyle Bolden executing tasteful exchanges between rhythm and lead guitar.
When she first heard the instrumental for the song, Lani told QB, “I hope you didn’t give this to anyone, cause this is all me. The production is so funky, sassy, strong, yet has a smooth-ass groove you can ride to. I just followed the lead & rode the wave of the song.” Lani’s seductive vocal performance is a celebration of knowing one’s self worth and seizing the moment when we see something or someone we desire or who desires us.
The music video, directed by Seven the Shooter, supports the retro sounds achieved by Lani and Smith with a number of 70s-inspired locations and highlights both the on-set and behind-the-camera action as a kind of commentary on how audiences perceive the worlds of entertainment versus reality, an always unique perspective from an artist consistently occupying both worlds.
