Edie Carey’s soft and sweet delivery of her latest single, “The Old Me,” perfectly encapsulates the longing for the simplicity of life before a child while simultaneously being enamored with the presence of this new life. Though rooted in folk, “The Old Me” hints of pop and that Nashville twang, through which Chicago-based Carey conveys her own experiences as a new mother while empathizing with listeners who have had or are having similar experiences. It’s a unique topic not often explored, so, “The Old Me” is an honest track to define this unique aspect of parenthood.
Fans of Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Rose Cousins, with whom Carey collaborated in 2008 for “itsgonnabegreat,” will really appreciate Carey’s acoustic singer-songwriter vibes supported by the band’s arrangement. An award-winning artist herself, Carey shares that “The Old Me,” is the second single from her forthcoming album, The Veil, having been preceded by ’Til The Morning: Lullabies and Songs of Comfort, a duo album with Sarah Sample.
