Karras’ latest track, ‘Wildflowers’, teaches listeners to persevere through anything that life throws at them.
The Midwestern alternative rapper has a distinct, singular style that channels the grit of classic hip-hop through the lens of his off-kilter, surreal consciousness.
“Akin to eighties sci-fi depictions of dystopian futures, his off-kilter lyricism is unprecedented and hypnagogic yet so starkly tangible, it lures the listener into his lucid fever dream,” he describes himself.
His irreplicable debut album from 2020 evokes clear pictures of a dystopian hero, intangible, yet starkly real. Since then, our hero has made monthly reappearances, bolstering the size of his discography greatly.
His latest track, ‘Wildflowers’, is about “persisting through anything life may throw your way and growing not only in spite of adversity but because of it. At the same time it’s expressing the feeling of detaching from fears and the self to the point that you become unified with your surroundings. It takes me back to nights camping in Southern Illinois, smoking weed next to a blazing campfire under the moonlit sky surrounded by rustling trees,” Karras explains.
“I used to feel easily discouraged and disconnected for a very long time, riddled with self doubt,” continued Karras. “I’ve come a long way since those days but like most, it’s something I still regularly encounter. Only difference now is that I have the resolve to face my insecurities head on. People don’t tend to wildflowers, they grow of their own accord.”
