Called one of the best live bands in DC by CBS, and praised by Billboard for their “sing-along, arena-ready sound,” Broke Royals have just released their first single of 2022, “Slam Band.”
The Washington D.C. metropolitan area was all a-flutter when Broke Royals released their second full-length album, Saint Luxury in 2019. Listeners knew that there was something incredibly defining about this concept album and its narrative, told from the perspective of an angel, the album’s eponymous hero; garnering recognition from the Washington Post as “an album of pristine pop rock.” By 2020 the band was on track to keep on making great music and sharing the stage with rock icons like AWOLNATION, Dashboard Confessional, and Car Seat Headrest, but as the band’s live sound evolved, their desire to bring that raw energy to the recording studio brought them back to producer Bartees Strange with a new set of material. The band’s latest track, “Slam Band,” suggests that fans may begin celebrating a forthcoming third album.
“Slam Band” is an indie alt rock song about a relationship gone rocky when the physical passion begins to subside. Broke Royals have crafted a danceable party song that depicts a couple trying to make sense of the status of the relationship and whether they will go their separate ways or decide to stay with one another in complacency. Fans can expect Philip Basnight (vocals), Colin Cross (drums), Taimir Gore (bass), and Ben Wilson (guitar) to continue to explore the heavy themes of love, heartbreak, religion, and anxiety in the modern world.
