Gigi Rich, an east coast artist born Gianna Salvato, released her new single, “Cycle,” on Friday, and its energy certainly matches her signature fiery red hair.
Her sultry vocals against a strong, pop-rock guitar express her frustrations about “feeling stuck in a very toxic relationship, and always going back and forth about whether to stay or not.”
Co-written with her friend Savannah Sanabia and produced by Aaron Osborne, whose production could be recognized from Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist, “Cycle” prompts the listener to reflect on their own relationships through a whirlwind of rage and complexity.
A dreamy pre-chorus tells us, “I’m in denial, around and around I go / oh, trapped me in a cycle.” She then repeats “a cycle,” which leads us into the upbeat, danceable chorus.
Her captivating vocals evoke a sense of helplessness as we feel the pain of toxicity with her because “there’s no antidote to this cycle.”
Rich knows what she wants, or rather what she deserves, “repeating the words that I deserve better,” and during the spiraling bridge she doesn’t give up: “I’d rather be fighting than give up on trying; all the spinning, it makes me sick.”
