Since the dawn of the nine-to-five workday and the five-day workweek, Saturday has always held a special place in the hearts of the people. For Indie Pop artist Arya Zappa, “Saturday” is a day to sleep in, stay out late, and fall in love. With Italo-disco-inspired themes merging Zappa’s far-reaching influences such as the Pet Shop Boys, Echo and the Bunnymen, 90’s French House, and Italian 70’s psychedelia, “Saturday” is an easy listening dance track with a brooding bassline and expressive vocals.
Music from her 2020 debut album Dark Windows earned Arya Zappa an Anchor award nomination as well as radio airplay on BBC, WDR, and Radio Eins. Continuing with the success of “Kiss Me Awake,” and now “Saturday,” Zappa prepares for the July release of her second full-length album, A Study of Dreaming Habits, featuring well-crafted punchy and spacious songs filtered through Radiohead and Arcade Fire expert engineer Mikko Gordon.
“Saturday” is an homage to the celebrated weekend, written during a time when, because of the recent global pandemic, one day of the week and the value we place on it begins to blur. The timely release of the song as many parts of the world have ‘opened up’ alludes to our continued need to have distinctive time set aside for lavish celebrations of life and love.
