The latest single, “Yesterday Isn’t Me,” by award-winning Manchester, New Hampshire-based band Sepsiss blends a wide variety of elements from Rock and Metal together into a lusciously heavy introduction to the band’s forthcoming second full-length album.
Listeners made quite a buzz about Sepsiss’ 2020 debut album, Almost 11, particularly “The Swarm” single, which inspired the nickname for fans, called ‘Swarmies.’ United by a love of music, art, and video games, Swarmies connect with band members Melissa Wolfe (vocals), William Savant (guitar, vocals), Cam Loud (guitars), Mr. Goodbarz (keyboard), Johnny Impact (bass), and Joe Mercy (drums) via regular live stream broadcasts. The band’s engagement around these and other various interests of the individual band members has created an infectious community. Wolfe even founded her own video game community, Immaculate Connection Gaming, a Halo-based social network on the Xbox and Microsoft social club.
Accompanied by an equally intense music video featuring the members of Sepsiss, “Yesterday Isn’t Me” is an aggressive and heavy song about looking toward the future featuring heavily distorted guitars, larger-than-life drums, and bass and melodic and airy synths. Wolfe’s and Savant’s vocals dance around one another, sometimes overlapping and otherwise complementing. The combination creates a unique dynamic component as multiple listens are something of a new experience depending on whose voice or instrument you prioritize each time.
The band’s diverse range of influences is impressively interwoven into Sepsiss’ sound in a way that pushes the boundary of the familiar. A good fit for fans of Epica or Amaranthe, Sepsiss is worth a second listen if you dabble in the metalcore genre at all. Their experimental nature will be a breath of fresh air to those who have been fans of the genre for a long time, and newcomers to the scene will appreciate Sepsiss’ modern hard rock sounds seeking to continue balancing tradition and authenticity.
