I Wear* Experiment, the Nordic electro pop band based in Allinn, Estonia, is back with their latest album Discontent which bops and weaves with hypnotic beats and catchy melodies. From the opening notes of the opening, title track, it is evident that there a special musical chemistry happening.
Combining electronic beats with fuzzy guitars that cut like razor blades, each song teems with driving energy that manages an impressive range of feels from the calm and contemplative to the endlessly danceable. It gestures towards a variety of possible influences like the iconic Peaches, The Sounds, or Tegan and Sara in during the era of The Con and beyond. Despite the pessimistic album title, listening to IWE’s music will not leave you discontent.
But at the core of each song is a strong backbeat and humming bass that propel the album forward with a lurch. With most songs clocking in at the 3 minute mark, they often feel like bursts of energy that leave you wanting more. Thankfully, the album is a sizable 15 tracks long so there’s plenty of vibrations to keep the good times rolling. For those who need something energetic that will prompt personal dance parties, this is the perfect album to add to your playlist.

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
