Belfast based multi-instrumentalist, Kaidi Tatham, is taking his time and living in the moment with his fourth studio album Don’t Rush The Process. Bringing a mix of soul, house, techno, and jazz, there’s plenty of groove and funk to keep you going through the entirely instrumental album.
The off-kilter rhythmic cadence present in each song makes the whole experience feel very refreshing. You get the easy listening of jazz music where one can fall into an lovely aesthetic trance, but the house influences encourage movement and dancing. The music becomes interactive as the hybrid propulsion take you for ride with the analog instruments coexisting with synthesized ambience.
Though the stacked, percussive rhythms act as the tethering through-line of the album, it is the easy-breezy nature of the various melodies provided by all kinds of instrumental voices (brass, piano, synthesizer, etc). It’s gentle in nature, not looking to be too much at any given moment. Despite the driving rhythms, there is no sense of rushing that occurs. Everything takes its time in a leisurely fashion while still managing to feel active and lively. All the tracks feel laden with a sense of deep sense of listening and trust in that they make no promises and have no agenda. Pure momentum which brings forward a sense of joy that is palpable throughout the album.

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
