Grammy Award updates affecting the 65th Annual Grammy Awards are the topic of today’s Lead Into Gold with the Alchemical Records team.
This was our first ever live episode of the web series / podcast (in waiting) streamed on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch. We discussed the contents of an update published on Grammy.com where five new categories plus one new special merit award were announced. Categories include: Songwriter Of The Year, Non-Classical; Best Alternative Music Performance; Best Americana Performance; Best Score Soundtrack For Video Games And Other Interactive Media; and Best Spoken Word Poetry Album. The special merit award is will be Best Song For Social Change.
Daniel, Cynthia, Charlie, Emma P., Maura, and Dylan consider which artists from the DMV music scene might consider submitting via the new categories, then contemplate which artists might have missed out on their shot at winning (or being nominated for) these categories back in the day. Closing arguments are optimistic that the Best Song For Social Change will be determined by the affect a song has and not just on its familiarity or popularity.
