Manchester based funkadelic soul pop band, Token Honey, bring fully stacked synth vibes in their latest single “Reality”. There’s a sense of pleasure that slurs the line between casual flings and longstanding romance.
Navigating that space becomes the through line of the lyrics which are delivered with a smooth, fluid quality complimented by bubbly grooves and funky rhythms. Building upon the foundations of 70’s disco and 80’s synth pop, Token Honey perfectly understands how to manifest the sensual coolness needed for a song with so much swagger.
“Reality is a special one for us as it marks the first time that all five of us collaborated in the writing process” explains lead singer Rob Hodge, “It began as a neo-soul style demo sent between us before some of us had even met in-person before, and once we finally got into a rehearsal room together post-lockdown, it really took shape and quickly became one of our favourites in the live set.”

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
