“Sticks & Stones” is a step further in the journey of singer, songwriter, and rapper Svicideghost, or Christopher Francis Chuilli. It immediately grabs your attention with appealing instrumentation, and we are met with svicideghost’s raw vocals that express an abundance of emotion; his screams are even impressive. “As the song progresses it opens up even more with the drums getting heavier, his vocals getting louder and dynamic, pushing the song upwards.”
His songs center around emotional themes such as self-reflection, and his style is reminiscent of past years’ “emo”, while still adding his own modern twists.
“Sticks & Stones”’s lyrics are clever and relatable: “Your sticks and stones can’t break my bones / Cuz your words have killed me / And don’t forget you created this mess / No I don’t want a fake friend,” he sings.
This song is his inner thoughts. It “is based on events that happened during and after the COVID-19 pandemic,” he says. “With myself losing an exceedingly close friend due to their personal insecurities and animosity towards myself without doing or knowing what I did to have them be this way towards me. As well as myself trying to move on from the situation realizing that people’s emotions of that magnitude can be very hurtful not only towards the person who holds onto that animosity but also towards others such as myself.”
