Connecticut-based rock band, American Thrills, are making waves with the release of their debut album Parted Ways though Wiretap Records (US) and Disconnect Disconnect (UK). Overdrive and bombastic drums take the reins as they shred through the 9-track collection with a pop-punk flare.
The album flies by with each song clocking in between two to three and half minutes, and the electricity of the guitars and yowling vocals seem to add to the album’s overall speed and adrenaline. Full of personal narratives that are emotionally driven, each song feels like a shot that makes the room spin a little faster (in a good way), and that unrelenting energy also feels intoxicating
By the time we arrive at the final track, “Ego Death”, the album tackles a variety of a distinctly blue collar feels, myths, and relationships. That punk energy of “I don’t need you or this town” comes through with clarity, and a yearning for a new beginning lingers in the air. One can only hope that this album will come to represent just that for the band as they move with speed and gusto towards future

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
