Rising electro pop star, Ellise, is ready to mess with “BROKEN BOYS & BITTER BITCHES” in her latest single which takes a page from the stylings of Billie Eillish, 21 Pilots, and Imagine Dragons.
“I love lying and stabbing myself in the back”, she sings sarcastically at the end of the bridge leading into the final chorus. It’s a line that perfectly encapsulates the dark humor and self-deprecation that Ellise has weaponized to create a sense of freedom. With ground shaking bass charging through the downbeats and breathy, sensual vocals on top, there is something sardonic at hand that is elevated by the darkwave EDM inspired production.
“Much of my music in the past couple of years has been pretty heavy and emotionally taxing to write.” Ellise says. “I wanted to make something fun and not that deep, while also experimenting with a different sound in production. “BROKEN BOYS & BITTER BITCHES” completely captured the confident, nonchalant, bad bitch energy I was feeling when I wrote it. So… after many, many heartbreak songs, I’m very excited to put out something that makes me smile when I listen to it!”

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
