“You” Finds LJR at His Most Tender and Honest Yet

On June 21, D.C.-based pop-rock artist LJR released “You”, the fifth single from his forthcoming album “When the Sky Began to Fall”.

“You” is a love letter to a future special someone, and the track finds LJR at his most tender and honest yet.”

“I wrote ‘You’ about finding that special person you end up with for the rest of your life,” said LJR. He notes that he did not have anyone in mind at the time of writingn, “so the lyrics are more about imagining moments with that special person and that connection.”

“You” follows an exceptional lineup of releases from LJR, including love songs “Insecure” and “Need a Little Lovin'”. But “You” offers something special. It gives audiences a glimpse of a side of LJR that we have not seen before, one that draws from deep within and is mature, passionate, and magnetic.

High heels and that white dress
I’ve never seen such a sight as your heart
You can’t help but impress me

“Yes, this one definitely has a different feel and emotional weight to it,” LJR shared. “The song both connects with the feeling of deep longing for the unconditional love I was seeking in a relationship.”

“You” takes inspiration from LJR’s Hillsong United influence, “which has very powerful hopeful anthemic longing tones to it.”

In terms of the composition, “You” begins intimately with piano, emotive guitar, and vocals — and builds steadily into an epic outpouring that captures the intensity of love. Not to be mistaken for the fleeting kind, LJR’s love is a commitment built to stand the test of time because he is willing to put in the work.

You make it so I
I want to be better
So I’ll try for you

There is something striking about the pairing of LJR’s candid lyrics and the song’s enveloping instrumental backdrop. LJR explains that this tension is intentional.

“I was writing from an honest place, not trying to make it the perfect song with clever lyrics or turns of phrase this time. I wanted to communicate a feeling with the emotion in the song more than deliver a specific articulation. And I felt proud of how that came out.”

One of the most respected content creators in the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area, LJR values giving back to the community.

He is the mastermind behind LJR Creative, an affordable, high-end video production company serving the east coast that helps artists turn their creativity into a career. LJR’s premier content generation event Amplify provides pro live video with studio audio for musicians on a budget at locations throughout the region. LJR also produces artist-forward concerts for local musicians that support area nonprofits and give artists most of their ticket proceeds, as well as free video and photo content.

With his latest single “You”, LJR makes us believe in the enduring power of love. Love is complex. Love is fragile. Love is also beautiful. And it’s worth fighting for.

“You” is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, and it is not to be missed. It’s my personal favorite to date from the album, and I’m confident that you will fall in love with it too.
