Jon discusses how it took some time for him to realize how good he had it as DMV artist, but reflects on what an incredible experience he’s had growing up as a musician in the region and as a member of Melodime. Sophia DeLeo Knows She’s in For Some “Trouble”
Sophie DeLeo is an artist that has really caught our attention recently. Although she is currently based in NYC, she is originally from Falls Church. The 25-year-old pop singer/songwriter taught herself to play guitar at age 14 and immediately began writing songs about boys in her childhood bedroom. Now, nearly 10 years later, she’s practically got it down to a science. Her lyrics are smart and sharp, yet unexpected, and her single “Girlfriend” was heralded as a “fresh take on an old theme” and a “complete love anthem.” She is based in New York City and is currently at work on a 4-track EP, which is set to release in May 2021.
Get to Know The Frontier!
In 2015, Jake Mimikos formed the Frontier and he hasn’t looked back. He has been featured on NPR, Netflix, The CW, MTV and more! The frontier is a one-man indie/acoustic project emerging from the D.C. area that combines a number of different genres including indie rock and acoustic. The band currently works with producer Austin Bello and has been creating some really interesting music! We got the opportunity to interview him, and wanted to share what we learned.
DuPont Brass – Once In A Lifetime
Aye Ant (Anthony), Deacon Izzy (Isaac), and MK Zulu (Jared) of DuPont Brass join the Alchemicast: with Andy Reed to talk about how busking (performing in the streets for tip money) became the catalyst for paying the band’s tuition as students at Howard University. We caught up with them before they received the win in four Wammie Award categories in 2021, but the band is heating up for their Rhythm & Grills livestream event happening Memorial Day weekend on May 31st, providing some flavor for your cookout. The guys discusses their influences and contributions to the sound of the band, and why each members’ projects outside of the band lend to their supergroup sound.
