Broke Royals, a rock & roll band that hails from D.C. recently released their latest single, “No Time For Love,” an upbeat, Strokes-inspired track that chronicles the early days of a relationship. “No Time For Love” draws you in with its catchy drum beat, guitar riffs, and a chorus that makes you want to listen to it on repeat.

The song tells the story of lead vocalist Philip Basnight’s early days of dating his now wife – the band’s keyboard player, Rebecca Basnight. “You found me at the wrong time,” it starts with hard-hitting, heartfelt, relatable lyrics. “I got so much on my mind / I’m just now hitting my stride / Just now moving with the tide / So much but it’s never enough / I’ve got no time for love,” Basnight sings, leading into the chorus, where he acknowledges he must give in: “Kiss my neck / You have my heart again / Light me up / And now we start again.”

“When I first started dating Rebecca, I didn’t think I had time for a relationship,” he explains. “I thought I needed to get my life and career in order first. In my mind, I had no time for love …. As much as I tried to convince myself I had ‘no time for love,’ love had already found me.”

“No Time for Love ” was mixed and mastered by Broke Royals’ own Colin Cross and produced by Broke Royals. It is the band’s first release since their acclaimed third album, which was produced by Bartees Strange and released on Byrdland Records. In February 2023, NIVA included Broke Royals on “The Live List,” a list of the country’s best up-and-coming touring artists. They have been praised by Billboard for their “sing-along, arena-ready sound” and named one of the best live bands in D.C. by CBS.
