Lauren Calve released her debut album “Shift” September 1st. She performs at Elkton Music Hall in Elkton, MD on November 17.
Calve’s first album is a folksy contemplation of her life in quarantine. Through the ten tracks on the album, she spends time dissecting her life figuring out what is good and bad about it. She brings the listener through this journey of self-reflection and self-exploration. Calve’s sound is a perfect blend of Sara Evans and early Alanis Morissette.
Sitting down with the album for the first time, all I could picture was that I was in the room with her. She transported us to a cozy environment, poured us both a glass of wine, and told me all about all the things I had missed since the last time we talked. All this to say, this album welcomes you in with open arms. It includes you in her life as if the two of you were old friends. It takes you through her frustration and confusion with herself, her determination to change herself and the way she experiences things, and ends with a love not only coming from herself but from those around her. The songs are all quiet and contemplative, reflecting the time she spent in quarantine working on who she is and who she wants to become. In all, Shift is an uplifting and meditative compilation of self-love.
Throughout the month of October she took the Nashville-produced album on tour with “This Tour Is The Shift.” Now, she is taking the album on tour with Rhett Miller. She will be joining him in Pittsburgh on November 16th, in Elkton, MD on November 17th, and in Montgomery, New York on November 19th.
