Every once in a while, an act comes along that completely wows you. Even rarer, an act comes along that completely wows you with little more than two chords. Interestingly enough, many of the most loved songs of all time were written with just two chords: The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby,” America’s “Horse With No Name,” and “Stop Whispering” by Radiohead. All of those acts seem to have inspired Cherub Tree’s most recent single, “Maybe it’s a stomach bug,” but Cherub Tree has done something completely new with those influences.
It is impossible to understate just how perfectly the understated acoustic and electric guitars mirror the energy behind “Maybe it’s a stomach bug.” The beautiful vocal lead wisps in and out of the dissonance of the guitars…an entire album of this incredible songwriting and sonic bliss is long overdue! Cherub Tree is going places.
Interestingly enough, there is no record of the names of the band members of Cherub Tree. Neither the vocalist, nor the guitarist. There is no indication if there are more members of the group contributing to the project – nothing. And while at first that may seem to be a mistake, perhaps it is intentional. The mystery of the impossible-to-overstate beauty of this project adds all the more to the allure.
Be on the lookout for Cherub Tree. If “Maybe it’s a stomach bug” is any indication, Cherub Tree has a bright, bright future to come.
