Having been writing songs for twenty years, Jacksonville artist Cory Driscoll is no stranger to producing music. He formed the post-punk band Curious Animals in 2008, followed by the post-rock band Young Adult in 2012. His solo EP debut came in the form of 2018’s Tropical Depression, reflecting a family forming and falling apart over a rained-out vacation.
Driscoll has more recently released singles “Ahead of My Heels,” “Promised Land,” “Hope Changes,” and “All Great Love,” all tracks from his just-released full-length, conceptual album “Eureka Springs,” a project filled with metaphor. He named the song after a town directly on top of a rich natural water source in Arkansas, saying, “The history of the land made me feel very connected to the place and the mythical nature of the life-giving spring… it’s rife with poetic language.” Looking for a creative outlet during quarantine, Driscoll composed the album collaboratively with nine of his old musician buddies from across the United States, each of them tracking from their respective locations and file-sharing the stems. The album maintains a mellowness throughout, with some songs having more of a traditional feel while others maintain motion through more soundscape elements. It will be interesting to see how the visual elements support this road trip-ready album when the music video of “Ahead Of My Heels” premieres on March 25, 2022.
