Looking for some funky beats to jam out to this summer? Look no further than Crazy Mary, the alternative/psychedelic rock band that will be your next obsession.
Crazy Mary was founded in 1998 Manhattan, and their music exemplifies the post-punk tone of the era – gritty, sexy, edgy, and artful. Founders Charles Kibel and Nick Raisz, lower east side rock veterans, were soon joined by Walter Steding, Andy Warhol’s painting assistant, and Emma Zakarevicious. Since their founding, they have released ten studio albums, to critical acclaim. Charles notes that he started his musical career in D.C. in a band called Stumblebead.
On March 16, 2021, Crazy Mary released “Psych Cat Funk”, a single best described with its title– funky! Their latest single, “Broken Road,” offers a similarly groovy experience. The blend of instruments with vocals offers a unique energy that charms the listener.
Fans of Kool & The Gang, Rick James, or even Jamiroquai should check out Crazy Mary. Their unrepeatable sound feels like a classic, and will be sure to stay on repeat all summer long.
