As Summer approaches, you’ll be in the mood for some skillful soft rock — and that’s exactly what Curiositi provides with “Sunset,” released Friday, March 17th.
The new track was created by the Swedish duo during their three year long recording stint in Malmos Studio, Möllan. “Sunset” follows Curiositi’s new musical journey that began with last year’s single release, “Trash.” The song leads the charge with an equally charismatic and chilled out vibe to evoke the 70’s west coast, easygoing lifestyle (think The Mamas and the Papas).
Besides testifying to the goodness of California living, the track also marks another step in Curiositi’s transition towards a more band-driven musical environment.
“It’s a first for Curiositi to feature a performance of us two playing together, laying down the drums and bass in the live room,” says the duo. “We’ve been more about songwriting and production than maybe performance and musicianship with Curiositi, but the way we’ve made this coming album we’ve had to sharpen ourselves again.”
“Sunset” listeners “cross the rubicon” with a disheartened lover — “The writing was on the wall,” member Matilda Berggren laments, “he said all he wants is me.” The twangy, echoing soft rock mood has a psychedelic twist thanks to a droning flute performance provided by Ivar Lantz of the music project Golden Ivy.
