New York City based designer and musician, Dylan Seeger, floats in zero gravity among the stars in his fifth album, “Moon House.”
With an array of indie rock hallmarks including eclectic instrumentation, a spacey pedestrian pace, and swirling backing vocals, he seems to set vibrations loose with the simple intention of letting them float alongside him.
There is a strong sense of introspection that seeps through each song’s core that is driven primarily by the singer-songwriter combo of gentle guitar strums and easy-going vocals. The tone is both bright and warm despite some of the lyrical content that grapples themes of technology, isolation, and plead of physical connection.
Of course, this makes sense in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic when these aspects of life became exasperated, but there seems to be something even deeper at work here. Past and future seem to coexist in conflict between feelings of melancholy and apocalypse respectively. The folky musical foundation makes perfect sense for something more analog and physical, but the addition of spacey effects and the warped atmospherics of solo guitar lines doing their best “Space Oddity” impressions continue this betwixt and between feeling that Seeger finds himself stuck inside of.

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
