Pop rock artist Emilio Lanza released his latest single, “Come Back to Me,” today, January 28. The spirited, upbeat track explores a troubled relationship and what it means to make a conscious decision to grow together in love. The song showcases Lanza’s expert songcraft and ability to write about intimately personal topics in a way that resonates widely.
“The song tells the story of a big love during challenging life struggles,” Lanza explains. “He knows that both she and him still love each other, and that it’s a temporary love crisis after five years of their story. In the end, their love story continues, and they improve their communication.”
The life struggles that have created a rift in the relationship seem to be influenced, in part, by external forces. Lanza notes the protagonist is facing unemployment among other things, fueling feelings of inadequacy and insecurity in the relationship.
“Come back to me, baby / Come back to know all my pain / If you really wanna know, baby / All the fights I won,” Lanza sings in the verse before entering into the soaring chorus, “And I know you’ll hate my words / Trust me, I won’t lie / I hate that you want a brand-new love / The grass won’t be greener next time.” It seems that he is better able to express himself through song.
Although this yearning is present in “Come Back to Me,” positive, feel-good energy is much more palpable. Melodic acoustic guitar with Latin influences, driving drums, and groovy bass paired with Lanza’s smooth vocals create an instant pick-me-up for listeners, encouraging them to get up and dance until their problems don’t seem as monumental. “Come Back to Me” bears many repeat listens.
Emilio Lanza’s journey to a music career took somewhat of a circuitous route. After pursuing a career in engineering and graduating with a degree, Lanza felt something was missing, and realized he needed to reconnect with music that he had been estranged from during his studies. Lanza, now a Certified Apple Logic Pro X professional, makes use of his engineering background in several aspects of his creative process, including administration and other areas that require methodical approaches.
In 2020, Lanza, who is based in Italy, performed a snippet of “Come Back to Me” for Grammy-nominated musician James Bay. His music has also been shared by global superstar Ed Sheeran. Fans of these artists and more will identify with Emilio Lanza’s rootsy acoustic compositions that would translate well live both stripped down and with a full band.
“All that you wanted / That’s what you got,” Lanza sings in the song’s pre-chorus, reminding his significant other that they were and still are good for each other. Although the “grass won’t be greener next time,” there is grace in accepting people you love for who they are – and a happy ending in store for this story.
