We all know how hard dating can be, but it also can catapult into something beautiful. This beauty of love at first sight is what New Zealand born, U.S. based pop artist Estella Dawn captures within her fourth release of 2022, “Orange,” released May 20.
Her songwriting ability certainly shines like the summer sun in this track, which contains sweet lyrics like the chorus: “Is it okay if I kiss you in this orange living room / You look like sunlight / Do you taste like tangerine? / Is it okay if I spend the night? / I won’t ask for too much,” and creative plays on words like: “I’ve been going crazy / Jumping from heart to heart without a parachute / One jump, two jump, three jump, floor / And then I fell at your door”.
Dawn encapsulates the vulnerability that accompanies the shared journey between ourselves and that special someone. Chemistry can be immediate, but could it be all in our minds?
“This song is about potential, when everything feels effortless,” Dawn says. “Drinking in somebody, the way they feel and laugh when they look at you and you realize you’d like them to keep looking at you that way. There’s no place you’d rather be than right there kissing them in that orange living room. When everything just stops.”
Dawn, a multi-instrumentalist, includes sounds of summer like the percussion and organ from a live band that draws us into the single, as well as the playful groovy guitar that has its time to shine.
Her beautiful layered vocal harmonies stand out tremendously, as she even hits some impressive high whistle notes and closes out the single a capella to really illuminate her harmonies.
Dawn bounces back from hard times and expresses the beauty of love without having to try, which is still scary nevertheless.
Fans of Chelsea Cutler, Dove Cameron, Sasha Alex Sloan, and Jessie J will surely find this summer track refreshing.
“Orange” is the third single release from Dawn’s highly anticipated full-length album out later this year.
