Fredrik Saroea’s reimagining of his 2021 track, ‘Bulletproof Vest’, brings together the past and present in a delicate balance.
Norwegian guitarist, keyboardist, singer, and songwriter, Fredrik Saroea, has been in the music scene since the early naughts. Best known for his role as frontman in disco-punk band DATAROCK, Saroea’s first solo album Rona Diaries dropped in 2021. He found inspiration in all corners of the musical universe, from “post-rock (The Sea and Cake) via hard-core (Fugazi), noise-rock (U.S. Maple), space-rock (Flying Saucer Attack) and art-rock (Blonde Redhead) to The Smiths’ indie-classics, Sun Kil Moon’s lyrical songwriting and Scott Walker’s ballads.”
His reimagining of Rona Diaries is a recognition of these diverse influences. Alongside the BIT20 Ensemble, his tracks blend seamlessly into the quartet’s music. A divergence from the classical quartet composition, BIT20 uses a harp, which adds a starry quality, piquing the light and ethereal track.
