Blending R&B, rock, pop, as well as the distinct and diverse backgrounds of the band members, Free Union creates a sound that is ever-evolving and hard to describe. However, it can be defined in one way: beautiful. Their latest release is their “No Pressure EP,” a soul, indie, rock, pop, R&B sonic exploration.
Free Union is based out of Charlottesville, Va., and like its blended sound, it seeks to unite people of all races and sounds. The band released its first EP in 2018 and hasn’t taken a break since. Many of the songs on their newest EP found their genesis as “Quarantunes,” a series put together during the coronavirus pandemic.
Over the past year, Free Union has released two of the singles on the “No Pressure EP,” but the combination remains fresh: the songs don’t get tired even after repeated listening. The new songs, “Bottom Falls Out,” “They Say,” and “No Pressure,” add new dimension to their discography while keeping in their distinct style. The titular “No Pressure” stands out for its melting sound that charms the listeners.
Fans of classics like James Brown or more contemporary artists like Daniel Caesar should check out Free Union.
