New York based singer-songwriter, Glenarvon, is coming out of the gate swinging with the simultaneous release of two new singles, “I Wanna Give You My Love” and “Ephemera”, both off his new album Idle Thrashing. Though the songs heavily contrast each other in feel, they both have an earnestness that manifest a captivating, emotive drive.
“I Wanna Give You My Love” feels like an ode to the early work of The Beatles if they had access to the distorted tones of contemporary indie rock. It’s a love song, pure and simple, but it has a lot of heart that bounces fervently with repetitive pop melodies and hooks. It has a sense of fun that makes it perfect for an end-of-summer playlist or a drive along the coast. Romantic and on the move, Glenarvon shakes us up with this feel-good tune.
Meanwhile, “Ephemera” digs into more somber tones that wanders along at slower pace but doesn’t give up the large sense of scale that comes with the 90’s inspired tones. At the intersection of pop structures and moody post-grunge, Glenarvon finds himself grappling with life and death in elegy form. Borrowing a famous quote from Percy Shelley, “No more let life divide what death can join together”, the song is deeply reflective and prompts a thoughtful level of angst that still manages to feel fulfilling.

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
