Some smart person years ago realized that nothing exists outside of the now. The future will at some point be the now, and the past once was. How we perceive every moment and how we react to our surroundings is what allows us to make the most of our short time. Highline’s newest song “Here Now” tells us about how in life there are few moments where everything truly feels at peace, and when in those moments, there’s no better feeling than sharing it with another. Lyrically the narrator describes enjoying nature while asking a presumed friend to keep them company. In the final lyric of the song, vocalist Sam Rigney tells us why it is so important to seize the day. By asking to once again be joined in the moment because “…one day I’ll go under and I know it”.
‘Here Now’ sounds like the walk home you never want to end, the guitars are the cool breeze, and the drums your footsteps. Rhys Hope’s clean guitars with a light reverb harmonize with Rigney’s vocal melody effortlessly, often in a call and response. James Priest’s bass and Jim Osborne’s drums carry the groove, dropping out at times to highlight lyrics and beautifully layered voices. The Australian four-piece indie dream pop band blends warm tones with jazz influences, creating the easiest of easy listening.
