UK based rapper, James Hutchison (aka Hutchi), is back with a new single “AutumnBaby” which will be the opening track from his brand-new mixtape HUTCHTAP VOL 1: Sugar Dog. Self-described as “a brutal hyper-pop/reggaeton cross” this is a song dripping with kerosene that will have you fired up in no time.
The opening is subtle and subversive in that it initially feels like a chill track as Hutchi whispers the first few lines before bursting forward with lightning-fast rhymes and rhythms that will leave you gob smacked. Using a contemporary approach to the Jamaican songjay style of singing commonly found in reggae, the vocals come at you like a swift punch to the jaw. It feels disorienting and relentless in the best way as it barrels forward with a sense of reckless abandon.
With an electric charge that is equal parts sexy and virtuosic, there is no stopping Hutchi once he gets going, and knowing that it is the opener for his new album means we better strap ourselves down because there is no doubt that it is a non-stop thrill ride. It is well worth the listen and will not disappoint those looking for an adrenaline rush. For the kind of track that will attract fans of J Balvin, Die Antwoord, and 6ixnine, so be sure to check it out before Hutchi inevitably jumps to his next project.

Charlie Maybee is a dancer, musician, educator, and writer based in Charleston, South Carolina who currently teaches with the Dance Program at the College of Charleston. His primary work as an artist is with his performing collective, Polymath Performance Project, through which he makes interdisciplinary performance art that centers tap dance as the primary medium of expression and research. He also currently plays rhythm guitar for the Charleston-based punk band, Anergy, and releases music as a solo artist under the name Nox Eterna.
