Stunning indie-pop duo Overcoats is back with their new single, “Never Let You Go,” and its music video ahead of their forthcoming album, Winner, available April 7.
As someone who was OBSESSED with their album The Fight when it came out in 2020, I am honored to introduce you to this pop powerhouse if you haven’t been introduced already. The duo is comprised of talented songwriters JJ Mitchell and Hana Elion, and they beautifully compliment each other in sound and style, especially in this new track/video filled with pleasant harmonies and creative imagery.
“Never Let You Go”’s opening deep piano notes draw you in and its catchy beat grows like a heart’s. They intimately sing to each other through a tense conversation on a covered couch surrounded by candles and clutter, bursting into interpretive dance. It even appears to be filmed in one take! Co-directed by Overcoats and Sharif El Neklawy, the band had fun leaving various clues in the scene about the song’s narrative.
This song adds to their catalog of how Overcoats is able to masterfully blend elements of pop, country, and electronic. Their new album Winner was produced by two-time Grammy-winner Daniel Tashian (Golden Hour co-producer), and continues to exhibit what just makes them so special.
Having previously toured with such notable artists as Mitski, Maggie Rogers, Cold War Kids, Tennis, and The Japanese House, Overcoats looks forward to returning to the road this spring. Watch the music video here and stay tuned for new music of theirs coming soon.
