In ‘Remember’, the lead track of Jay Bizzy’s upcoming EP ‘Motions’, the Essex musician gives music lovers a sample of his story telling. The chorus sets up the singer’s head space while the verses give the narrative. In those verses he cites the battles and people that have impacted his life, including his family. The last line of the chorus– and the last line of the song – “Ain’t no turning back we’ve crossed the line” describes a new beginning. When asked what the line is, Bizzy says it “Could be dissing the dead, robbing your friend, any sort of violation…”. Leaving the tears and acts he remembers to continue with what’s to come. Fitting content for an emotive sound.
The multi-instrumentalist opens the track with a piano that is then joined with the beat and Chorus. A bass line that will shake the truck just right and that piano pair nicely with Jay’s singing flow. His delivery keeps the tone light and reminiscent, despite touching on moments of family death and wrongful conviction.
His bright delivery comes from his influences in HipHop, R&B, and soul. He also plays 7 instruments and has no problem showing them off. ‘Fly Away’ heavily features a smooth electric guitar and his cover of Deep Wounds by Polo G (over 50k views on YouTube) highlights his piano playing along with a raw representation of his strong vocals.
The video for ‘Remember’ shows us Jay Bizzy’s party vibes: A huge house, the Range Rover, and stacks of cash. The way the visuals are framed with the music, it’s as though Jay is remembering the tough times as he’s enjoying a more successful moment of his life, having “mixed emotions” about what he’s describing during the verses. The effects on the camera sync with the vocals by changing to a VHS style filter, often on key words like “I remember” and “used to” this detail connects the music to the video. It’s like the party scene is the rhythmic beat, and the memories the light piano.
