Coming up in the New York indie scene, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and self-ascribed music nerd Jay Ives has just released his first single of 2022, “Oh Maureen.”
Since his debut single “Fall On Me” was released in 2019, Ives’ music has attracted fans from around the world for his unique voice in the worlds of pop and indie rock, a sound he achieves by personally producing each track along with carefully selected collaborators.
“Oh Maureen” is an electropop/synthpop love song with a bit of an R&B feel featuring airy vocals swirling above silky smooth drums and keyboards. “This is my first release after taking a few months off to move,” says Ives. “I’ve been listening to a lot of 70s pop and the keyboard sounds inspired the basis of this track.” The vocals exhibit a soulful sensuality in the vein of those romance songs from the 1970s as the lyrics explore a multifaceted relationship that recognizes how another person can ‘just get you,’ lifting you up and making you feel inspired.

Ives received his introduction in music on his grandmother’s piano at the age of four, inspired during his years as a teenager toward songwriting and production, and has spent the last decade honing his skills while producing a number of other artists, developing his own set of catchy melodies and memorable hooks, and now, one funky ballad in the form of “Oh Maureen.” Check it out below, or find it on the Alchemical Records Multigenre Mixture playlist on Spotify.
